How do we know if a source or claim can be trusted?

 How do we know if a source or claim can be trusted? 

Trusting someone is hard even if it is someone you know. Most of the people have trust issues because of their past experiences with someone they really trusted. If you trust someone then what they claim must be true because you trust what they say. You may trust someone you don't know personally like a movie star this is because of the influence on you by them. 

the person who gives the sources maybe someone who has already given some sources to other people which turned out accurately which makes us trust them because everyone else does. We may never be certainly able to trust a claim or source because of the human nature.   

Not everyone tells the truth even though we trust them so we can't be certain to trust their source or claim. It depends on who gives the sources and the person who is trusting them. 

We can and can't know which sources and claims that can be trusted as it depends on each individuals perspective on who they trust and whom they don't because there are lot of rumours and fake news going on social media. So a lot of things can't be trusted.

  Is imagination more important than reasoning for understanding sources of past? Logical reasoning is more important than imagination because historians need a reason behind their imagination. Imagination is important but not more because without logical thinking there is no scope for imagination. Historians cannot just imagine anything they need a source or a evidence which shows the particular event. Then only if the cost and effect is not present in the shown evidence, they imagine what caused it to happen and how the event affected the environment or the person.
