How do we know if a source or claim can be trusted?

How do we know if a source or claim can be trusted?  Trusting someone is hard even if it is someone you know. Most of the people have trust issues because of their past experiences with someone they really trusted. If you trust someone then what they claim must be true because you trust what they say. You may trust someone you don't know personally like a movie star this is because of the influence on you by them.  the person who gives the sources maybe someone who has already given some sources to other people which turned out accurately which makes us trust them because everyone else does. We may never be certainly able to trust a claim or source because of the human nature.    Not everyone tells the truth even though we trust them so we can't be certain to trust their source or claim. It depends on who gives the sources and the person who is trusting them.  We can and can't know which sources and claims that can be trusted as it depends on each individ...

The best history is written by those who lived through the events they described

The historians who lived through the event have certainty that it happened cause they have seen it through their own eyes. They know the truth of what happened and that's why they are certain about the information they share. Other historians can interpret the history written by one historian and it can be easily understood now because of the technology development.  But the perspective of the historian can be biased which may reflect to their work. Because it involves personal experience it becomes more subjective than objective. As the historians personal cultural knowledge could affect how he/she looks at events because each person has their own values and beliefs.  If the historian lived through the event then he/she would have evidence as their role as a historian is to  gather documentary evidence in order to come to the best possible interpretation. Because he/she has lived through these events so he/she would be collecting a lot of evidence to confidently c...

The future of Meat-Eating

To what extent do the development of new technologies affect shared beliefs of society? To satisfy the increasing demand for food by the growing human population, cultured meat (also called  in vitro , artificial or lab-grown meat) is presented by its advocates as a good alternative for consumers who want to be more responsible but do not wish to change their diet. But what about vegetarians how do their values and beliefs of their culture be affected because of this. When vegetarians think about other people eating meat they think how this would go against their culture and how many animals are killed just satisfy their needs.  Even though the cultured meat does not kill any animal it sure does feel like betraying the culture of vegetarians. Any kind of meat, even vegan meat is considered non-veg food. but not all vegetarians may agree to this as some may think that the meat is not made of animals then they can have it.  So the development of new tech featuring me...

Changing views on Gender and Sexuality

To what extent does shared knowledge impact an individual's response to ethical questions?  In recent years the attitude towards gender and sexual diversity is changing at the fastest rate ever. People are changing their views on gender and sexuality as they are trying to understand what those people are going through. People get the knowledge of gender and sexuality from others who get it from other people which makes this knowledge a shared knowledge. The shared knowledge affects an individuals values and beliefs.  Because if the shared knowledge is right for everyone then it is supposed to be ethically right which eventually changes your attitude and response to ethical questions. Because of individuals changing their views on gender and sexuality people of the LGBTQ can live more safely and more comfortably.   LGBTQ was in use from 1990s to help these people to feel supported and empowered. People are learning about this from 1990 but action were never take...

Imagination or Reasoning

Is imagination more important than reasoning for understanding sources of past? Logical reasoning is more important than imagination because historians need a reason behind their imagination. Imagination is important but not more because without logical thinking there is no scope for imagination. Historians cannot just imagine anything they need a source or a evidence which shows the particular event. Then only if the cost and effect is not present in the shown evidence, they imagine what caused it to happen and how the event affected the environment or the person. But at some point imagination can be equally important because sometimes we may not be able to believe we see in the past resources so we create an image which perfectly fits the evidence which makes us understand things from the past.  If we take an example of the latest event of coronavirus which has affected the world in many ways and see it from the future where we have only to rely on secondary sources. Then ...

Moral and Ethical responsibility

Do historians have a moral responsibility to try to ensure that history is not misused and distorted by people for their own needs? It is not a moral responsibility for historians to uncover the truth but it is the historians ethical responsibility. It is their ethical responsibility because we never know what the cause will be if the truth is revealed. They can reveal the truth if it doesn't do damage to the society or they have to cover it if the damage can happen. But in some cases in history it is historians moral responsibility to show how the history has been misused by people who think about their own needs. It does not only depend on which events in history but also the context of the event or the result of the event, if the result or context is morally wrong in their perspective then they should uncover the truth.   Joseph Stalin was one of the leaders in soviet union who ruled the country by terror. Historians have discovered that he had erased a lot of people from t...

Technology

Can we say that at the rate in which technology is advancing, does it make sense to say that a computer will ever know things? Technology has been developing quickly since it has been invented, and it is evolved in the form of AI (artificial intelligence).  Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems.  Specific applications of AI include expert systems,  natural language processing, speech recognition and machine vision.  In general, AI systems work by ingesting large amounts of labeled training data, analysing the data for correlations and patterns, and using these patterns to make predictions about future states.  AI programming focuses on three cognitive skills: learning, reasoning and self-correction.  There are four types of AI Type 1: Reactive machines. These AI systems have no memory and are task specific. An example is Deep Blue, the IBM chess program that b...
